Zumobi is building the next generation hybrid of mobile/web applications, for the iPhone, Android and other next–generation mobile devices. Our applications power mobile experiences for consumer brands, entertainment, and sports organizations.
We are looking for an experienced Ruby and/or Java web application developer, with web service and SQL experience, who can work under minimal supervision to create the services and applications that drive Zumobi’s mobile applications.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a member of an agile development team, you’ll estimate, design and implement applications and web services in consultation with other software teams and product designers. Work varies by project, and can range from integration with 3rd party data sources and services to front end visual work, although you need not be an expert at all aspects of web application development.
With many smaller projects we have many deadlines, but also great opportunities to learn and improve on how we work as we go. This position requires a high level of time management, personal prioritization, and the ability to work on projects either independently or with a team.
The right developer for this position will also enjoy the challenge of improving our development efficiency and quality, and championing best practices for software engineering (e.g. re–use, testing, continuous integration, and the like), while working in a dynamic (but not chaotic) start–up environment.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
· Demonstrated experience building Java or Ruby on Rails applications (with a willingness and ability to learn the other platform)
· Demonstrated experience with SQL (writing SQL queries, mapping active record to existing databases, etc.)
· Knowledge of client–side web development technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Ajax techniques).
· At least 2 years of industry experience, preferably working at a consumer oriented web/mobile company.
· A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as computer science or information systems is highly desired. Other degrees are fine too given you’ve got some extremely relevant experience.
