It’s that time of the month. The October/2009 Seattle Startup Index is out and another month with an astounding 17 new startups added to the list. Until mid of this year, we would had a big month when we added 10 startups to the list and the average around 6. For the past 4 months we are consistently adding 15-20 new startups every month.

The number of startups on this list is somewhat of a lag indicator of startup activity because we only list startups that have launched, which means they were founded several months (or years) ago.

On the Top 10 there hasn’t been that much movement, just a few companies shuffling their position. But on the Top 50, there have been a few interesting movements.

PopShops moved 10 positions to #26 and if you look at their Compete graphic you can see something happened there. And, Jambool had a huge jump to #36 moving 30 positions.

The new startups on the index are: HasOffers, BigStartups, Team Apart, Boxoh.com, EnergySavvy.com, Couchsoft (Mentby), Osnapz, Social Kind (TweetToCall, Escape My Date), Fotozio (PicTranslator), Adometry (Veracity), Qbiki Networks (iPhoneSeattle), HotelsOutlook, BuzzMinder (2Reminders), Splitts.com, Data Applied, Baldy Beanbag (The Big Magoo) and Megosi.
