Raising capital from Angel investors can be a challenge, particularly given just 10 minutes to distill your entire business plan into a compelling presentation. What information is critical? How much detail is enough, or too much? What do angel investors consider when evaluating an investment opportunity?

Since 1999, the Program Managers at the Alliance of Angels have been coaching early-stage companies and bringing the best deals to angel investor members. Having collectively interviewed hundreds of companies, we have developed a set of best practices regarding the presentations that resonate with the angel investment community. In the 10-Minute Pitch Clinic, we share these best practices with you in an interactive workshop. Instead of learning these lessons the hard way, when you're in front of angels asking for money, consider attending our clinic first to get the inside information you need to know, now.

This workshop format will be divided into two parts. First, the AoA program staff will give an overview of the Alliance of Angels and discuss the components of a good 10 minute pitch. Afterwards, we will work directly with the participants on specific start-up messaging. All you need to bring is your vision for your company and your desire to make this workshop truly participative-- no other preparation is necessary. Space is limited to 20 attendees, so reserve your spot today. The price to attend is $95 per person with advanced registration, or $110 at the door.

Notes
This event is intended for entrepreneurs (no service providers, please). To prepare, please just think about a succinct way to describe your business. This will be the starting point for our messaging discussion. It is designed for new companies looking to fine-tune their messaging, business plan, and investor pitch-- you need not be seeking funding from the AoA or at all, but it has been developed with an eye to pitching to the angel investor community. The workshop is not part of the AoA interview process, but attendees will be given special consideration should they choose to apply to the Alliance of Angels coaching and screening process.

Hack Night is a weekly meeting held by Seattle Wireless.

We now meet at Metrix at 1605 Boylston Ave at Pine around 7:00 PM.

Always check the EventCalendar to confirm that we are planning to meet.

This is a generally a work meeting. The purpose is to get together, communicate, relate problems, and actively work out technical issues that directly relate to building out the SeattleWireless network. We also work on problems encountered by individual node operators. Demos of software or hardware are also done on occasion. In the process, we all learn about things we didn't know before which is certainly in the spirit of Seattle Wireless.

If you think Seattle Wireless is cool and are interested in setting up a node, stopping by HackNight is a great way to meet the other people involved and figure out how to get started.

Seattle Saturday House is a weekly gathering of several people who meet and do ... whatever they want! People work on projects, people talk about ideas, people conspire and hatch plans, and people play games with each other. It's been called "BarCamp every Saturday," though it's a bit smaller than BarCamp.

For more information, consider the blog post that inspired the Saturday House.

Why?

Because we're tired of emailing each other.

Because while it's easy to find stuff to read on the web, it's still too difficult to just talk with people on the web.

We want "Intelligence on Tap." And we've found it.

We've found that it works.

Our Goals and Vision

Our first principle is freedom: There are no required activities.

Our goals are to expand, rent or buy a permanent space, deck it out with projectors, an amazing library, game systems, computers, and racks, and become a central (or backup) gathering space for geek gatherings in Seattle, such as Seattle Python, Seattle Ruby, Seattle Robotics Society, Seattle Wireless, ... ...and any other geek groups we like in the greater Seattle area, who would like to make use of our space.

We want to inspire thought, fun, and -- we'd be disappointed if several companies didn't come out of conversations that started here, either. "House Business" may become a reality.

When we succeed, we want to serve as an example, inspire a broader community of interesting people to do the same in their own cities, and become a global phenomenon.

Thus, we call ourselves more fully, "The Seattle Saturday House," in anticipation of "The San Fransisco Saturday House," "New York House," "Sidney House," and so on. Perhaps there may be more than one house in Seattle, even?

If these goals or this vision inspires you, please contact us!

Who Are You People?

See the participants page for the most recently updated list.

We desire diversity in knowledge, diversity in backgrounds, but presently, we are interested in accumulating members.

When we look at people, we ask ourselves questions like, "Does this person love learning? Does this person love ideas? Does this person pursue interesting action? Does this person know something cool? Does this person care about life?"

How Do I Join?

We meet on Saturdays at Giraffe Labs. Just drop in any Saturday! Directions to the Giraffe Labs.

The mailing list is also wide open! Come on in, and introduce yourself, tell us who you are -- even if you live 1,000 miles away from the Saturday House. Be bold!

AUTHOR SPEAKER SERIES

In MAKING IT ALL WORK: Winning at the Game of Work and the Business of Life, bestselling author David Allen harnesses the ideas and strategies he wrote about in Getting Things Done to create a comprehensive guide to approaching organization and productivity in all areas of life, whether it be cleaning out the email inbox, getting a babysitter for the coming weekend, or deeper issues, like arranging elder care for parents.

The two key principles of MAKING IT ALL WORK are control and perspective--control over the day-to-day commitments and information overload that threaten to submerge us, and perspective over learning to balance work and life in tandem, in order to be fully present in each area of your life. Covering topics like how to find out where you are in your life, what you need, and how to move from hope to trust in decision making, Allen provides a roadmap for anyone with an overwhelmingly busy schedule.

These days, this can be just about anyone, from a harried road warrior, to a young professional, to a soccer mom, to a student. He takes the GTD principles of how to get things done and pushes them to the next logical step, by identifying what should be done in order to meet key life goals, and how to identify what horizons to focus on and where the residue, drag and "clutter" resides in our life. While GTD helps people survive in the world, MAKING IT ALL WORK will help them thrive there.

This is your opportunity to meet other energetic, dynamic entrepreneurs and to hear their stories.

Pub Night will allow five NWEN members to be in the limelight for three minutes each to talk about what they do and what they are looking for as entrepreneurs. The pressure will be on as each member gets only the use of a microphone (no PowerPoint!) to briefly get across the focus of his or her new venture. It is sure to be both informative and entertaining for all. Two restrictions will apply at all times: no talk about raising money and no suit coats or ties.

For your $20 you'll receive an appetizer buffet, two drink tickets good for one beer, house wine, well drink or non-alcoholic beverage of your choice and the pleasure of the company of other self-motivated, entrepreneurial people like yourself!

While Pub Night is a members-only event, if you are a member and would like to bring a guest who might consider membership, please contact the NWEN office at (425) 564-5701 and we will be happy to register them.
